Gaozhou was founded in A.D 598, being a political and cultural center in the area in the past dynasties. It has been a city from the county town in 1993,and was titled as historic cultural city by Guangdong Provice in 1996.“NO.1 heroine” Miss Xian, lishi Gao,the official in Tang dynasty, the first director of agricultural sciences academy,YinDing, YanRong Ding the famous artist both were born in Gaozhou.

    With a residential population of 1.65milion,it covers an area of 1800sq. kilometers and has 23 towns and 5 districts. Being a city, it has carried out the policy of “three sides（agricultural, industrial, urbanization）promoting,urban and town develping”. The economy is develping, society is progressing the people are peaceful and healful.

    The export-oriented economy is the most important economic pillar.From 1998 to 2006,the import and export volume of the city reached USD20.7 billion, actual use of foreign capital has exceeded 0.345billion US Dollars, which 90 percents is from H.K.Now, altogether 150 foreign invested enterprises have been approved to invest in Gaozhou, whose products are sold to Europe, America , Middle East, over 40 countries and regions throughout the world.
